Varna is the sea capital of Bulgaria and the third largest city in the country, with its over 300 000 residents. Varna has a long beach with a beautiful Sea Garden parallel to it, but attracts visitors also with its historical remains from the times of antiquity, middle ages and Renaissance. Among them are the ancient Roman baths, as well as the second largest church in the country – The Assumption Cathedral. Part of Varna's charm today is its reputation as a 'shopping heaven', because of its boutiques, jewelry stores and malls, thriving all the year round.

Varna is visited mostly by European tourists of all ages in the summer season. For many of them it is the starting point for their vacation on the Black Sea coast because of its airport.

The city beach is used mostly for sunbaths and relaxation, than for wild sports. Usually there are volleyball nets stretched and ready for game, and children may enjoy the water slide.

The immense archaelogical museum on Maria Louisa boulevard keeps incredible treasures, dating from the as early as the stone age. One of those is the oldest golden treasure in the world – dating from 4000 BC. The richly decorated cathedral of the Assumption, built in 1886 with its beautiful frescoes and fretwork is definitely worth visiting. In the center of the city is the well-preserved Roman bath, built in 200 BC.

Besides a pleasant walk, in the Sea Garden you'll also find open-air cinema, as well as amusements like mini-golf and inflated castle for the children to have fun. Close to garden is the Dolphinarium -  with daily shows of the sea creatures.  In the Naval museum you can see impressive military ships, submarines and helicopters.

Varna is an ideal place for the so-called shopping therapy – on the west end of Slivnitsa str. you'll find many boutiques by popular brands. You'll find souvenirs near the Opera House.

Varna is awake round the clock with its flourishing nightlife. There are many lively night bars near the beach, with different genres of music. In the center of the city you have a big choice of discos, restaurants with live-music performances, piano bars, etc.

Near Varna are located the resorts Balchik and Golden Sands, accessible by car or bus. The beach St. Constantine and Helena as well as the middle-age stone monastery Aladzha are on the north.
